Meet Kelly

Kelly Regan is a leader, mother, partner, and community champion.

Kelly was elected MLA for Bedford Basin in 2021. She was first elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature in June 2009 as the member for Bedford—Birch Cove and was re-elected in the 2013 and 2017 elections as the member for Bedford.

Kelly Regan is serving her fourth term in the Nova Scotia Legislature and is the longest-serving member of the current Nova Scotia Liberal Caucus. She was first elected in June 2009 as the Member of the Legislature for Bedford—Birch Cove, re-elected in 2013 and 2017 as the MLA for Bedford and in 2021 as the MLA for electoral district of Bedford Basin.

Kelly is an experienced leader. She served in the cabinets of both Premier Stephen McNeil and Premier Iain Rankin from 2013 to 2021, serving as Deputy Premier, Minister of Community Services, Minister of Labour and Advanced Education, Minister responsible for the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Minister of Seniors, and Minister responsible for Youth. She served on the Treasury and Policy Board cabinet committee from 2017 – 2021.

In August 2022, Liberal Leader Zach Churchill appointed her Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition, Chair of the Legislature’s Public Accounts, and shadow minister for Skills and Labour. She is a member of the Legislature Internal Affairs Committee.
Previously, Kelly served in opposition as critic for a variety of portfolios, including Finance, Seniors and Long Term Care, Status of Women, Education, Advanced Education, Labour, and Community Services. She also served as Caucus Chair and Whip, as well as Chair of Public Accounts.

Prior to entering politics, Kelly worked as an award-winning television director, producer, and writer. She has been deeply involved in her community, volunteering with many organizations.
Kelly was honoured to receive an Inspire Award for Public Service from Big Brothers – Big Sisters of Greater Halifax in 2018. She was named a Progress Club “Woman of Excellence” in the Communications and Public Affairs category in 2012.

Kelly is an honours graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Co-op English Program (Legal Studies Option).
Kelly has been married to Geoff Regan since 1993; they have three adult children.
