Awards Encourage Creative Excellence in the Arts

Grade 12 students across Nova Scotia planning to pursue post-secondary studies in creative arts, are encouraged to apply for the Minister’s Awards for Creative Excellence in the Arts.

“The creative arts have been engrained in Nova Scotia’s culture for generations,” said Zach Churchill Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “I am pleased to provide the winners with resources to help further their studies in the arts.”

The province is partnering with The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Charlie A’Court to provide the Minister’s Award for Creative Excellence in the Arts.

The award includes four scholarships:
— The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts, $1,000
— Excellence in Performing Arts, $1,000
— Excellence in Digital Multimedia, $1,000
— Charlie A’Court Scholarship for Excellence in Music, $500 and a mentorship opportunity with Charlie A’Court.

Up to 15 applicants will also be selected to receive $100.

The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is the largest art museum in Atlantic Canada. Since 1908 it has been a gateway for the visual arts in Atlantic Canada by engaging people with art.

“Throughout the years, the gallery has stimulated conversation about creative possibilities and has fostered change through the arts and education,” said Nancy Noble, gallery CEO and director. “We are pleased to be presenting and supporting young and emerging artists in Nova Scotia.”

Mr. A’Court, an award-winning Nova Scotia blues musician will present the Scholarship named after him, for the first time provincewide.

“Nova Scotia has always been admired and respected globally for its outstanding musical heritage. The vision of this award is to help nurture that next generation of world-caliber musicianship.”
